Why is the use of a natural fir tree fire retardant mandatory in public access buildings?

This professional treatment is essential to bring your natural Christmas trees (spruce, Nordmann fir) installed in public spaces up to fire safety standards.

Installing a natural Christmas tree in a public building (ERP) or a business presents a significant risk of fire spread due to the natural flammability of the wood and needles. The requirements applicable to your installation are assessed with your inspection body or the competent safety commission. Our natural Christmas tree fire retardant is a liquid, odorless, and colorless solution, specially formulated to impregnate the needles and branches to prevent immediate ignition and slow the spread of flames.

Is this product compatible with artificial Christmas trees?

No, it’s crucial to note that this fire retardant for natural Christmas trees is exclusively for natural trees. Its formula is designed to be absorbed by the tree’s organic fibers. For plastic or PVC decorations, you should refer to our range dedicated to synthetic materials. Find all our specific products on the category page: Fire Retardant for Christmas Trees.

How much should I use to fireproof a natural Christmas tree?

The quantity to apply depends on the size of the tree. For a fire-retardant product for fir trees in a 0.5L sprayer, the treatment capacity depends on the size of the tree:

  • 1 sprayer (0.5L) can treat a fir tree approximately 1 metre high.
  • For a 2-metre fir tree, 2 sprayers (1L) are required.
  • For larger trees or bulky decorations, we recommend using the 5L container format.

How to correctly apply Eurobois fire retardant to obtain M1 certification?

The product is ready to use. For maximum effectiveness, follow these steps:

  1. Preparation: The tree must be clean, dry, and free of any artificial snow (flocking).
  2. Spraying: Apply the Christmas tree fire retardant evenly to all sides of the branches, from top to bottom, until the needles are saturated.
  3. Drying: Allow to dry naturally for 12 to 72 hours before installing electrical decorations.

Natural fir is not covered by our test reports: we do not claim an M1 classification on this support. We carry out the treatment and document precisely what has been applied, without issuing a classification certificate for the support. In premises open to the public, compliance is assessed with your inspection body. For artificial Christmas trees, our EUROFLOR range confers an M1 classification in the conditions of test report no. P258195 – DEC/2.

Does the product alter the appearance or smell of the fir tree?

Our natural Christmas tree fire retardant is designed to be completely invisible once dry. It does not alter the tree’s natural green color and emits no unpleasant odor, thus preserving the Christmas atmosphere in your establishment. Conditions of use, handling and storage are set out in the product safety data sheet.

6. What is the validity period of the fire retardant treatment on a natural plant?

Unlike dead wood or cardboard, a natural Christmas tree is a living organism that dries out. Treatment with this Christmas tree fire retardant remains effective throughout the holiday season (approximately 2 to 3 months indoors). If the tree is exposed to intense heat (near a radiator or a bay window), it will dry out faster, but the fire retardant barrier will remain active on the treated needles until the tree is removed.
