1. Fire-retardant treatment by spraying or immersion
Our workshops treat the substrates covered by our LNE classification test reports: textiles on the four fibres and weights of report no. P258195-DEC/1 (100% PP 70 g/m², 100% PES 175 g/m², 100% linen 230 g/m², 100% cotton 150 g/m²), artificial plant foliage in PP 70 g/m² and PES 175 g/m² (report no. P258195-DEC/2), and yellow-fir softwood treated by immersion in a bath (report no. P258195-DEC/3).
At the end of the treatment we issue the application declaration matching the product and the site; the applying company completes and signs it and keeps it in the site safety register. Any other substrate — paper, cardboard, natural plants — falls outside that scope: we do not claim an M1 classification on it, but we will assess the feasibility of a treatment and, if necessary, arrange a dedicated test.
We can fire-retardant the following in our workshops :

artificial plants

Fabric rolls

Objects made of solid wood
2. Application of intumescent varnish
At Alfaflor, we offer specialized intumescent varnish application services, an innovative solution for improving the fire resistance of various materials. This treatment is essential for achieving the European Euroclass B-s1, d0 standard, guaranteeing advanced fire protection.
What is Intumescent Varnish?
Intumescent varnish is a coating that, when exposed to intense heat, swells and forms an insulating layer. This thermal barrier slows the temperature rise of the treated material, thus delaying the spread of flames and increasing reaction time in the event of a fire.
How does Intumescent Varnish work ?
- Application: The intumescent varnish is applied to the surface of the material to be treated.
- Activation: When exposed to high temperatures, the varnish begins to swell and forms a meringue.
- Insulation: The inflated layer forms an insulating barrier that protects the underlying material from heat and flames.
- Retardation: This process slows down combustion and prevents the rapid spread of fire.
Advantages of Intumescent Varnish
- Effective protection: By slowing the spread of flames, intumescent varnish offers crucial protection, increasing evacuation and reaction time.
- Aesthetics preserved: Unlike other fire-retardant solutions, intumescent varnish is transparent, preserving the original appearance of the materials. However, a change in color may appear on the wood.
- The test report covers wood and wood-based products with a density of at least 300 kg/m³ and a thickness greater than 8 mm, or a substrate classified A1 or A2-s1,d0. Any other substrate requires prior validation with your inspection body.
- Conformité aux normes : Le traitement permet d’atteindre la norme Euroclass B-s1, d0, assurant un niveau de sécurité conforme aux exigences applicables et une conformité aux réglementations en vigueur.
Applications of Intumescent Varnish
- Construction: Used on wood and steel structures to enhance the fire safety of buildings.
- Industry: Applied to industrial equipment to protect against fire hazards.
- Interior decoration: Ideal for decorative wooden elements requiring fire protection without compromising aesthetics.
- Autoclave wood treatment: This process guarantees deep fire-retardant treatment of the wood, ensuring long-lasting protection.
3. Autoclave Treatment for Fire-retardant treatment Wood

At Alfaflor, we offer a specialized autoclave treatment service for fire-retardant treatment wood. This advanced process ensures deep protection, guaranteeing the safety and durability of wooden structures against fire hazards. L’Euroclass visée est B-s1, d0.
What is Autoclave Treatment ?
Autoclave treatment is a wood preservation method that involves impregnating the material with fire-retardant agents under high pressure. This process allows the product to penetrate deep into the wood, providing long-lasting fire protection.
How does Autoclave Treatment work ?
- Preparation: The wood is first prepared, often by being dried and cleaned to remove any impurities.
- Impregnation: The wood is then placed in an autoclave, a large airtight chamber where fire retardants are injected under high pressure.
- Penetration: Under pressure, the fire retardants penetrate deep into the wood fibers.
- Securing: Once impregnated, the wood is removed from the autoclave and left to dry, thus fixing the fire retardants in the material.
Advantages of Autoclave Treatment
- Deep protection: Unlike surface treatments, autoclave treatment provides fire-retardant protection that penetrates deep into the wood.
- Durability: Autoclave-treated wood retains its fire-retardant properties longer, even in outdoor conditions. For exterior treatments, the application of Pelicoat is recommended.
- Resistance to the elements: In addition to fire-retardant treatment, this treatment improves the wood’s resistance to rot, insects and fungi.
- Compliance with standards: The treatment allows compliance with fire safety standards requirements, offering classified protection.
Applications of Autoclave Treatment
- Construction: Ideal for wooden structures exposed to the elements, such as decks, cladding and roof trusses.
- Industry: Used for industrial wooden equipment requiring increased fire protection.
- Outdoor furniture: Perfect for garden furniture, fences and other outdoor wooden structures.

The specialist in passive fire protection
Passive fire protection involves anticipating fire risks. It primarily consists of preventative measures. The areas most often subject to fire safety standards are public spaces (high-rise buildings, restaurants, hotels, etc.). Our mission is therefore to support professionals in complying with the strict safety standards imposed in these sectors. The ultimate goal is to protect visitors to these establishments by enabling them to evacuate safely in the event of a fire.
Products meeting fire-retardant standards
For public safety, standards have been established to limit the consequences of fires and contain them. Our products allow you to obtain M1 fire-retardant classifications. These classifications must be presented to the safety commission. They attest to the fire-retardant treatment of your products, in accordance with the standards.
